In “The Ringer”, Eminem delivers a criticism of the genre and tears into many modern rappers. Many new rappers have turned to this genre because it’s very easy to make these songs. The genre has been criticized for being generic and uninspiring, as all songs sound the same, and it’s virtually impossible to make out most of the lyrics. *add topic sentenceOne of the newest trends in modern music is mumble rap, named after the way it sounds. Through the song, Eminem drives across the point that the current rap industry is a shadow of what it used to be, and that current rappers are too obsessed with money to put effort into their work. His song “The Ringer” is especially focused on dissing the current rap industry, delivering bar after bar of metaphors and wordplay. He made his opinion vocal with his album Kamikaze ,where he fired shots at many modern rappers including Migos, MGK. Hip-hop artist Eminem, widely regarded as one of, if not the greatest rapper of all time, shares this opinion. The lyricism and wordplay as well as the purpose of songs today seem to be only focused on three things: money, drugs, and bitches. Rappers today are a far cry from what they once were. Hip-hop has undergone many changes in its “meta”, the mainstream way new songs are made, and what they are about. But lately, many people would argue that rap has devolved. Today, it is incredibly influential and profitable, with its own culture defining the newest generation. It started as a niche genre, but gradually picked up a greater following as the decade passes. Rap is one of the newest and foremost genres of music in the 21 st century.
